Haydon, Cheers for bringing the drill charger back from expo (I didn't realise it had made it down the hill). I just got it back. I'll fettle that. But the bag included two chunky splitter cables which I presume are for the solar panels. Why have they come back? Is that just a filing cock-up, or do they need fettling in some way?
Not sure. I vote cock up. No fettling required probably make sure they are returned.
I also have the solar controller you gave me with the batteries (which I was kind of hoping wasn't my problem). I guess someone needs to do some research and buy a better one or try and test it to see if it's really doing the right thing.
May be worth testing in first instance. Ice got the details of the correct 'make sky blue' cheapest one with good reviews and has the advantage that it should require no additional fettling at top camp. Issue wa that the current one is a almost identical copy. I will dig back and find the correct one if reminded.
Did you write down the specs for the new solar kit on the website (i.e batt capacity/model panel characteristics/model)?
Approximately 1000 copies were emailed to the list and hard copies at expo. I think Phil Sargent uploaded them to the server too but not sure where.
If someone was feeling efficient they could make a second box for lowering/retrieving batteries. Also the solar panel box took a whack when lowering last year and could do with slight reinforcement.
Also I don't think the solar panels support was documented very well when taken down. I can write up what I remember and I think someone practically minded with moderate patience will have little trouble. (not becca!!!!)
I also have an almost completed portable setup in peli case intended for last year but never used. All it needs is either two motorcycle batteries or one of the old car ones at top and it will fuel a second camp. (e.g. One close to homecoming). Happy to fix this up and finish my job!
Happy to help with any more questions etc.
Haydon
