While Wookey and Sam were doing SQL stuff last night to get Django working,
I have been synchronizing the partial copy of expofiles/ which Wookey had
uploaded with my (more complete, but older) copy of expofiles/ .
*FYI - raw photos*
In 2005 Andrew Atkinson uploaded a large number of .PEF raw pentax files
and uncompressed .TIF files, each of which was 13MB.
(The TIF files are of the rescue practice.)
I am converting them (without loss of resolution but of course with lossy
compression) to .jpgs (which reduces them to ~1 MB each).
I am using Geeqie to view the raw files and ufraw-batch to do the
conversions as imagemagick convert doen't do .PEF files.
Where should/can we archive the originals?
Should I also reduce the resolution of the .jpgs ?
*FYI - video*
There were quite a few videos lurking inside the expofiles/photos/
directories. I have extracted these and moved them to expofiles/*video2*/
which is 1.5GB.
I have not uploaded any of the expofiles/*video*/ files yet. This is 9.5GB
and we propose to remove all the *hangliding* stuff first. Julian, I
presume you have your own copy of this ?
Any other suggestions for culling?
Philip
[Notes attached for how I have been doing this.]
