After a lot of grief I have managed to port troggle from python2.7 to
python3.8
running on the same version of django (1.7) we use now, but on the latest
LTS release of Ubuntu (20.04).
This means that we can use more modern tools for working on this thing now.
Wookey has a few things he wants to do so is not planning on upgrading the
server
for another month.
The code is on branch 'python3' on
http://expo.survex.com/repositories/troggle/.git/?h=python3
It runs - well about as well as it previously did - but some labels are not
being rendered properly. That
should be fixed this evening.
For our plans for troggle, see the "troggle status" link at the bottom of
this page:

PS Django 1.7 expired in December 2015. We would need to move to Django 2.2
to get to
a version with current security fix updates. We have been running on empty
for 5 years
but this doesn't seem to be a problem.
