I would expect for any distro "everything but the onboard networking
should be fine" still holds.
Pretty sure the controllers are actually supported in all the kernels
these days, but I know there's
been runtime issues with those drivers popping up and going away
between kernel revisions
since they were first added. (I don't *actually* know that's been the
case in the last year.)
As long as you have a supported Ethernet dongle, you'll be fine - at
least with the system in ACPI mode.
Worst case, you'll need to experiment with some different kernels
after installation.

There have been updates to the platform code - various patches
claiming bugfixes to spi flash driver, Ethernet PHY, USB, as well as
changes to continue working with edk2 master.
